Research-Based Training
Established in 1997, we have become a recognized authority
on research-based use
of
force education and training for law enforcement agencies. We specialize
in training instructors for police and correction settings. Today,
law enforcement agencies recognize us best for developing training
based on documented tactical, medical, legal, and psychological research
by our founder Dr. Frank J. Gallo, Ph.D.
Dr. Gallo is the President of Law Enforcement Press.
He is a retired law enforcement officer from the Cranston, RI, Police
Department. His professional police experience included delivering
use of force training; investigating major crimes; resolving high threat
or special threat situations such as barricaded suspects, hostage situations,
drug raids, and unique search and rescues; providing executive protection
and security; and training in specialized tactics, weapons, and equipment.
Dr. Gallo is a recognized Police Use of Force Expert, Police Psychologist,
and Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice at Western New England
College, Springfield Massachusetts. He is a published author on topics
such
as police use
of force, training and evaluation, and decision-making. He has
an active program of research that generates and applies psychological
knowledge to law enforcement settings and problems. Rhode Island Law
Enforcement Trainers Association awarded Dr. Gallo the 2004 Rhode Island
Police Trainer of the Year. Dr. Gallo personally instructs and certifies
our defensive tactics instructors. He consults with our client
agencies and more than one-hundred certified instructors on use of
force and accountability issues.
Tactical Research recognizes the needs
of officers in use of force situations.
Legal Research is important
to the defensibility
of subject control tactics. We have tracked various Federal and Supreme
Court decisions. Our training provides officers guidelines for meeting
reasonable standards.
Medical Research supports our decisions to
select appropriate subject control tactics.
Psychological Research allows
us to study thinking patterns and decision-making skills of officers.
This approach also allows us to study offender behavior and identify
appropriate police responses to use of force situations. This
combination of research has become popular among agencies that use
our training
because they now have training that is reliable, valid, and court
defensible.
